Paris) Independent TV production company Pernel Media today announces that French public broadcaster France 5, part of the France Télévisions Group, has commissioned ‘In the Footsteps of Attila the Hun’, an epic science-based television special that delves into the life of the legendary barbarian leader.
Pernel Media has secured exclusive access to an archeological site in Kazakhstan – one of the largest Hunnic digs ever discovered – that shines a new light on the famous barbarian ruler who led his Hun army across Europe and contributed to the fall of the Roman Empire.
With additional filming locations in Hungary, France and the US, this documentary special looks to uncover the truth surrounding the man who became widely known as the ‘Scourge of God’.
‘In the Footsteps of Attila the Hun’ will air on France 5’s spectacular science strand, Science Grand Format, with Pernel Media producing French- and English-language versions. Pernel Media will be presenting the documentary film to international buyers at MIPCOM.
Anne Gouraud, Xavier Grimault and Amandine Picault commissioned the show for France 5. Samuel Kissous is Executive Producer for Pernel Media.
“Attila the Hun was the ultimate terrorist of his time, but his life still mystifies and astonishes many historians to this day. This documentary will provide viewers with a deeper understanding of one of the world’s fiercest leaders and we are delighted that France 5 have come on board the project,” said Samuel Kissous, President of Pernel Media.
One of France’s leading factual producers, Pernel is behind other major series including ‘20 Years on Death Row’ for 13ème Rue and UKTV, ‘Extreme Lands’ for France 5 and major hit docu-drama series ‘The Real War of Thrones: A History of Europe’ for France 5, which has sold to more than 35 territories worldwide and is now entering a third season.
The company is also currently producing the landmark documentary series ‘Secrets of the Pyramid Builders’ exploring one of the greatest engineering projects in the history of humanity: the construction of the Pyramids and the Great Sphinx of Giza.
