Leading independent UK TV production company Icon Films today announces a range of international sales for its documentary series ‘Jeremy Wade’s Mighty Rivers’ in deals brokered by ITV Studios Global Entertainment (ITVS GE).
The 6 x 60’ series, originally commissioned by Animal Planet for the US, has been picked up by Seven Network in Australia, Chinese online entertainment service iQIYI, Canal Evasion in French-Canada, KBS in South Korea, Choice TV and a second run to BBC Earth in New Zealand, Viasat World for Viasat Explore across Central Eastern Europe, and Discovery Latin America.
ITV Studios Global Entertainment handles international distribution for ‘Jeremy Wade’s Mighty Rivers’ outside the US, English-speaking Canada and the UK.
The show, which also aired on ITV in the UK in January 2019, sees ‘River Monsters’ star Jeremy Wade examine and explore some of the planet’s largest waterways.
The world-renowned naturalist takes the pulse of the Amazon, the Ganges, the Yangtze, the Mississippi, the Danube, and the Zambezi to understand how exploitation and pollution are contributing to the ruin of rivers that were once the lifeblood of communities and home to the remarkable fresh water creatures that made Icon Films’ ‘River Monsters’ a global success, following 9 seasons on ITV and continuing broadcasts on ITV4. River Monsters is also distributed by ITV Studios Global Entertainment.
Icon Films’ Commercial Director Lucy Middelboe said: “We’re delighted that TV audiences around the world can now enjoy ‘Jeremy Wade’s Mighty Rivers’. These sales, of a series that delivers a powerful environmental message is testament to Jeremy’s international appeal and ability to pack a punch whatever the topic.”
Ruth Berry, Managing Director of ITV Studios Global Entertainment, said: “We know from our conversations with our buyers that Jeremy Wade’s passion, enthusiasm and knowledge is a huge draw for global audiences and this is another hugely popular series in our extensive non-scripted catalogue.”
