New Delhi (UNI) Bollywood fraternity on Monday condoled the demise of the renowned playwright, actor and theater personality, Girish Karnad.
Karnad passed away on Monday morning.
He was 81 and was ailing from respiratory related problems.
Taking to micro-blogging site Twitter, Anupam Kher said,’Deeply saddened to know about the sad demise of Sh. #GirishKarnad ji. He was a great artist, scholar and a brilliant playwright. My first small appearance in the film Utsav was under his direction. Also acted in both #Tuglaq and #Hayavadan – plays written by him. On Shanti.’

Karnad was a contemporary writer, and contributed in a big way to the Kannada as well as Indian Theatre.
He was born in 1938 in Maharashtra’s Matheran, had his elementary education in Uttarakannada and Dharwad district in Karnataka and had also worked as a visiting professor in Chicago University.
He was conferred with Padma Shri and Padma Bhushan for his immense contribution to the literary, theatre and cinema world.
